He brings together the mediums of poetry, music, and film, addressing topics including diasporan identity, mental health, youth and fatherhood.<\/p>\n<p>I plan to develop<em>\u00a0<\/em>my interdisciplinary project, <em>Subaltern<\/em>, exploring what it means for people of the African diaspora to live and thrive in conditions that deny them agency of their bodies, their environment, their families and their economic independence. <em>Subaltern <\/em>will encompass a series of poems, films, sound design and a cityscape installation.<\/p>\n<h3>Kirsty Taylor<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2725 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Kirsty-Taylor-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Kirsty Taylor\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Kirsty-Taylor-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Kirsty-Taylor-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Kirsty-Taylor-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Kirsty-Taylor-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Kirsty-Taylor.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kirsty is a \u2018Bratfud\u2019 born and bred teacher, writer and poet.\u00a0 Passionate about people and their stories, she has created work for radio and theatre, performing up and down the country telling stories about her beloved city and her experiences there, taking a sensitive look at life in \u2018Broken Britain\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>I am eager to develop my writing through mentorship and working alongside other artists. I&#8217;m interested in exploring spoken word in the context of theatre, particularly in non-traditional spaces, combining other art forms including music and song. Effortlessly warm, she creates unique performances with illustrators, musicians and dancers. She is a slam winner, regular headliner, and appeared on BBC Radio Kent. In 2019 she received Arts Council funding to develop her new show, <em>Queer Brown Skin<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I am so honoured to be part of this! I\u2019m really excited to develop as a spoken word poet, exploring new collaborations in contemporary dance with my dancer Jasmine Ee, with time for writing, mentoring, learning, showcasing new work, building audiences and developing core pieces of my new show.<\/p>\n<h3>Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2727 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Safiya-Kamaria-Kinshasa-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Safiya-Kamaria-Kinshasa-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Safiya-Kamaria-Kinshasa-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Safiya-Kamaria-Kinshasa-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Safiya-Kamaria-Kinshasa-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Safiya-Kamaria-Kinshasa.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa is a British born Barbadian raised poet and dancer. To write and perform her work, she chiefly experiments with dance\/movement, rhythm, and science to navigate through intersectional material. Safiya was shortlisted in the Page category for the 2020 Out-Spoken Prize for Poetry and longlisted for the Performance and Film categories.<\/p>\n<p>I desire to contribute rich pieces which continue to expand on my multi-disciplinary practice, feed my curiosity for the possibilities of poetry in performance and challenge my craft. I hope to gain invaluable knowledge and use the time to continue discovering my voice, heritage, and unique style.<\/p>\n<h3>Shaun Hill<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2728 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Shaun-Hill-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Shaun Hill\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Shaun-Hill-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Shaun-Hill-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Shaun-Hill-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Shaun-Hill-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Shaun-Hill.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shaun Hill is a queer poet exploring non-capitalist\u00a0ways of being. Through performance he co-authors moments of radical intimacy. Shaun\u00a0has shared his words\u00a0widely, at festivals like UK Young Artists, WOMAD, Shambala, and Verve. His poems have\u00a0appeared in\u00a0magazines like Magma, multiple\u00a0anthologies, and on BBC Radio 4.<\/p>\n<p>Camping with poets always expands what\u2019s possible. I\u2019m looking forward to the geeky conversations I\u2019ll have in the creative lab that\u2019ll rip apart my thinking and leave me stumbling forwards.
