The work of the Artists in Residence, the theatre, local artists and everyone in between is what makes this festival so fantastic. On this page an archive of some of the activities from SPINE Festivals in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SPIN! 10 Exciting New Voices in Poetry Anthology<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of SPINE Festival Lite 2024, we launched <em>SPIN! 10 Exciting New Voices in Poetry <\/em>edited by <strong>Joseph Coelho<\/strong> and illustrated by <strong>Ruthine Burton<\/strong>. The anthology features fifty poems from ten debut poets, three new poems by Joseph Coelho and the three winning poems from <a href=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/project\/kindness-competition-2023\/\">SPINE Festival 2023\u2019s Kindness Poetry competition<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Themes range from video gaming to ice skating and football, hair, holidays, sisterhood, generational memories, friendship, the sense of self, personal experiences, music, and family life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poets are Anneliese Amoah, Antoinette Brooks, Sadatu Futa, Eileen Gbagbo, Shagufta K. Gbagbo, G\u00fcne\u015f G\u00fcven, Jasmin Thien, Justin Coe, Laila Sumpton, Linden K McMahon, Miss Jacqui, Paul Lyalls, Rachel Lewis <\/strong>and<strong> Zohab Khan.<\/strong> In addition, there was a programme of events for families and children hosted by <strong>local artists in each borough<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the festival, we released Artist Spotlights of the Poets in Residence A huge part of the work that Joseph delivers is around diversifying children\u2019s literature. LITE 2022<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SPINE Festival ran a &#8216;LITE&#8217; version in 2022. This was a less intense programme with no artists in residence. The decision to make run a smaller version for the festival was to give the library partners a small break, post-pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2022, the lite festival\u2019s theme was \u2018<\/span><b>KINDNESS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 and launched on <\/span><b>3rd March 2022<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, World Book Day, taking place throughout the month across libraries situated at the heart of London\u2019s communities, both digitally and in-person. The free programme of spoken word and arts activities featured a six-week Discover Arts Award<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/project\/telling-tales\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Telling Tales<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> creative writing workshops programme for 7-11 year olds, tour of the playful Half Moon Theatre \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/spine\/2021\/half-moon-theatre\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dollop &amp; Crinkle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 show, and exciting local artists events.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To celebrate the launch of SPINE LITE, as well as World Book Day, we commissioned a <a href=\"https:\/\/applesandsnakes.org\/2022\/03\/02\/the-poems-of-joseph-coelho\/\">delightful blog<\/a> from Joseph Coelho &#8211; all around his book Poems Aloud and how to use poetry to inspire children. The vibe in recent years has been slightly different as some of the events took place online due to government restrictions.
